How To Sign Up for Collection and Get Your Cart
GSWA provides a 96-gallon wheeled cart for each residential customer who registers for curbside trash collection. After a customer has registered, a GSWA official delivers the cart to the service location, codes it by using Global Positioning Service, and weekly collection service begins.
Set Out Guidelines
Trash collections are scheduled from Monday through Thursday and will begin from 3:00AM-1:30PM. Trash collection courses are according to GSWA’s scheduled routes, which will be advised to the customer. You must set-out your cart the night prior to your scheduled collection day. All customers must place their cart/s at the curb, no more than 4 feet, adjacent to the road. After collection day, carts must be removed no later than 12 hours after collection.
All trash must be placed in your cart. The 96-gallon cart will hold about three (3) full 32-gallon plastic bags or seven (7) full 13-gallon plastic kitchen bags of household trash. Your cart is the property of the GSWA.
Your trash cart is to be used for household trash only: consumer packaging, soiled paper, rags, paper towels, tissues, and chicken and meat bones. All trash must be bagged inside the cart. A mechanical device on the trash truck will lift your cart and empty your trash bags from your cart into the truck. If the trash in your cart is loose, the cart may not empty properly, and loose trash could blow around, causing litter. Loose trash in your cart can also soil the inside of your cart.
Please do not fill your cart with more than 335 pounds of household trash. The mechanical lifter is unable to lift overloaded carts, and heavy carts could injure collection crews.
As soon as you receive your new trash cart, the following items are banned from collection:

In addition, these hazardous materials must never be put in your trash cart:
- Household hazardous waste (batteries, paint, pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs, antifreeze, etc.)
- Explosives
- Medical waste, sharps (needles)
Customers are urged to ensure that bin lids are securely closed. This measure is crucial to prevent rainwater from entering the bins. Refuse typically contains around 60% moisture, and our standard collection operations are equipped with effective seals to prevent most leakage during the compression process. It is important to note, however, that while our refuse bodies are designed to be water-resistant, they are not entirely watertight. This intentional design ensures the practicality of the compression process.
If Your Cart Is Stolen or Damaged
If your cart does not work properly due to a manufacturing defect, please call the GSWA Customer Service line (646-3111) to request a GSWA employee to repair the cart or deliver a new one at no cost to you. If the cart is damaged, destroyed or stolen, please call the same number to request a replacement cart. In cases where the cart is damaged, destroyed or stolen, there will be a charge for a replacement cart and you should call your customer service representative for further details.
Returning the Cart
Your trash cart is the property of the GSWA and must not be removed from your property. If you move or discontinue service, the cart must be returned to the GSWA. Please call Customer Service at 646-3111 to arrange for pick up.
Cart Care
Your cart requires little care other than an occasional hosing with water. (Afterwards, be sure to empty all water from the bottom of the cart and allow it to dry.) When your cart is delivered, you will receive additional instructions on its use and care.
Cart Storage
Store your cart in your backyard, carport, garage or any other convenient, safe location.
Collection from Carts and Bags with Tags Only
Trash collection crews will only collect trash from trash carts and bags with trash tags. You can use your old garbage cans to collect recyclable materials. Please note that you will no longer need cages or platforms to enclose your trash containers. Please remove them.
Trash Tags
Your 96-gallon cart should meet your weekly needs, especially if you recycle as much as possible. However, at certain times of the year, you may have more trash than will fit in your cart. When you register for trash collection service, you will receive four (4) FREE trash tags to put on bags of trash that won’t fit into your cart. The GSWA collection crews will not pick up bags of trash that do not have a trash tag affixed to them.
Additional Trash Tags
You can purchase additional tags at g the main GSWA offices (542 North Marine Corps Drive, Tumon) and the Residential Transfer Stations.
